Reading Reflection

1.
  • I thing what really surprised me to hear was that Jobs had an extremely rough startup. He literally cane from nothing , and was able to build such a successful company that we know today. He used his surroundings to be inspired and propel himself forward, all throughout the book Jobs showed extreme tenacity.
  • Jobs mentions something called an RDF ( Reality Distortion Field). It’s basically him changes his reality until it matched what he seen in his mind. This is very inspiring to be because many times our surroundings don’t match up to what we are envisioning, so we basically give up. But, having an RDF forces us to keep working to have both our imagination and reality line up.
  • Jobs wasn’t the easiest to work with. So something I would say I least admired about him would have to be his attitude. He didn’t really appreciate the people around him. He tried to excuse his bad attitude with nice words, but that didn’t make up for the fact that he was very irritable and hard to work with.
  • He definitely experienced a multitude of adversities. But, he used his tenacity, and faith in his company to continue pursuing his dreams.
2. I noticed Jobs was very charismatic. When others didn’t think something was possible he made it his mission to achieve it. His charisma made it easy for him to bend the will of others around him in his favor.

3. I can’t really recall a specific place in the reading that I was truly confused. The organization was nice, and things flowed really well all throughout the book

4. I would ask him: what made him stand so strong behind his company, despite the hardships he was already experiencing? Another thing I would ask him is: could you visualize the success of the company. I chose these two questions because he is truly inspirational. Additionally he had no reason to keep up his company yet he did, and made something incredible out of it.

5. I think Jobs depended heavily upon hard work. I think he believed that a great business is built upon hard work. This is evident in his actions in the book. A word that I think he would use would have to be determination. I do agree with his way of thinking because having a goal includes hard work, and with hard work and determination you’ll be able to achieve a lot of things. With a goal it makes the work you’re doing more important to you and makes you want to actually do what you’re doing.

  1. Hi Elly, I think you chose a great person to read about, I think Jobs is one of the main people who come to our minds when we think of successful entrepreneurs. Like many determined people, it is great that Jobs depended heavily upon hard work. It's great that your vision aligns with his as I feel this will take you to a great journey of success. Good job.

  2. Elly,
I also did my reflection on Jobs, and I answered similarly to you. However, I found myself confused when the book mentioned computer hardware and software as I know absolutely nothing about those things.
I must note that I am a bit confused with your point on hard work as it isn't very cohesive. I do agree that he would have highly valued hard work, but I don't follow your part about goals.
Overall, you wrote a very good post.
    Respectfully, Maeghan Solanki
