Entrepreneurship Story

I think I was in Middle School, when I had decided to become an entrepreneur. I had a best friend at the time, who’s name is Monifa, and we had decided that we were gonna have our own clothing line, and company. We were introduced to this lady that went to our church named Lenja. We were so infatuated with her because she had her own line, and we wanted the same things for us. So we talked to her just to see how hard it was for her, and any recommendations she might’ve had for us. After talking to her we were so excited, we wanted to start right away, so that’s what we did. We started with little things, like trying to make simple things for our church’s dance group, and things for ourselves to just give us a taste of the world we were dying to be in. Around that same time, I started undressing all my dolls, buying fabric, and making my own clothes for them. I also asked my parents to buy me a sewing machine. From this time forward my love for fashion, and anything creative has just expanded. Sadly we fell off, and so did our ideas, and our small business. At this time in my life I no longer want to try to create clothes, but try to style the clothes already made. Fashion has became my life in a way, I love to shop, and find clothes that are different but beautiful in its own way. I love getting dressed up, and looking nice at all times is a must for me. Though I still love fashion, I no longer want to be an entrepreneur. So your next question might be then what are you doing here? But I’m taking this class to help my gpa, and also just to learn. I love being able to learn something new, and this class is one that is realistic. I figure I’m going to take something from this class, that will realistically aid me in life. But one specific thing that I wish to gain from this class is just a new lens. A new way to look at this world, and inspect it from a different point of view, that would do nothing but make me a better member of society.

  1. Elly,
I am not going to lie, but your post was an absolute roller coaster. I really loved how it had a "train of thought"-like read to it. I especially enjoyed one of your last sentences, "one specific thing that I wish to gain from this class is just a new lens", as it is a sentiment that I echo in my own post. I do think that your post had some room to be more descriptive, specifically when speak about your own entrepreneurial adventures. That is where I found myself very interested in what you had to say. All things considered, I believe you fulfilled the necessary requirements for the grade, and I applaud you for doing so.

  2. Hey Elly,
I love your little story about you and your friend's idea to start your own clothing line. It's interesting to hear about young kids trying to do whatever they can to chase after a dream they have. That is definitely very respectful. Also, Lenja sounds awesome and I hope she's doing well.

  3. Hi Elly,
I really enjoyed reading your post. It was exciting to feel the passion you have for fashion and what you did with that passion. I'm sorry your business fell off and you no longer wish to be an entrepreneur. I agree with your reasons for taking this class, as I also wish to get a new lens in business-- even though I have not considered being an entrepreneur. Interesting story, hope you're still pursuing your passion through styling clothing.
