Reading Reflection #2
The book that I chose to read is called “Art of Social Media”, I chose this one because our generation is wrapped up in Social Media. If there is a way for young people to use what they love to put money in their pockets than, why not? The main theme of this book is just to help people use their social media accounts as a way to generate money, gain customers, and it my help you gain potential investors. I found a lot of common themes between the book and this class, in that it just helped emphasize all that I’m already learning right now. One of them is just professionalism. As an entrepreneur everything in our life is a reflection of us, and our business no matter what we think. Additionally, it made a point to tell us to listen to our customers, find our target group, and see what they need, what your community really needs, and “cater” to that need. I think a potential exercise would be to just browse through social media accounts and see what other entrepreneurs have found worked best for them. Additionally, I think it would be best if the students made an account for their potential business, and see what customers like, and try to gain traction for their companies. I think this would be a great way for students to take their business from paper, and step into the real world. Gain real world feedback, and see what potential customers, and other entrepreneurs think about the business, and hopefully receive viable tips. I think the moment where I was astonished or my “aha moment” was when the author said that our social media can be used as a business, and should be treated as such. I think a lightbulb went off for me, because I never thought about trying to do this for my business. I have seen other people do it, and they seem successful, but I never associated social media with being an addition to my company. I believe by introducing a social media aspect to my business venture, I would be able to attract more customers, and help keep my customers in the loop, without having to develop a whole app. I think using social media, I can test out my service, and save money all in one place.
I also read the "Art of Social Media" option mainly because I have always been into social media management so I figured this book can help me out by teaching me new techniques. I think your exercise idea is a good one! That way future entrepreneurs can learn from other's mistakes. Great job on this assingment!
ReplyDeleteHey Elly,
ReplyDeleteMany people today don't understand how much the growing world of social media can impact a start up business. I have actually experienced this myself when referring to my actual commercial and charter fishing business based in South Florida. Many of my charters and customers who purchase locally caught fish are found through social media pages such as Instagram and Facebook. Honestly, without social media, I would not have half of the business I do today.
